Key Details

We undertook thermal modelling, cfd, compliance & BREEAM analysis for the recently completed 1.1 million sqft, £100 million logistics facility for Amazon at iPort.

Client:
Veridon / Buckingham / Imtech
Sector:
Industrial

The Project

The Amazon plot forms part of developer Verdion’s 6 million sqft strategic rail freight interchange in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. The bespoke warehouse is 0.5 kilometres in length – the size equivalent of 14 football pitches – while the building design itself is state of the art, with an interior fit-out design and specification that is cutting edge and unique to Amazon. The development achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating with our analysis proving internal thermal comfort for both TM52 standards and the client preferred ‘Thermal Index’ measure of comfort. The majority of the space was conditioned for occupant comfort and we undertook cfd analysis of air flow patterns around the dock doors to simulate the ingress of cold air in winter. This enabled us to ascertain the likely effectiveness of air curtains positioned above the loading doors. Summer cfd analysis also analysed comfort conditions near the large battery charge area and enabled the optimal positioning of local extract ventilation.
