Introduction to Healthy Buildings

Wellbeing is the second wave in sustainability – Human Sustainability. The concept of Wellness is a complex combination of a person’s physical, mental, emotional and social health factors.

The built environment contributes to our overall wellness on a macro scale, our journeys to, and places of work have a significant influence on our wellbeing and cognitive output. ZED is accredited to deliver full consultancy towards managing the healthy building standard for your building and supporting building and certificate maintenance.

Why Do Buildings Need to Be Healthy?

For a long while, our perception of our physical and mental health has been focused on how we keep ourselves active, motivated and nourished. The impact of the environment in which we place ourselves is greater than we believe.

We breathe 15,000 litres of air each day; What is in this air? How is it affecting our productivity? Our physical and mental health?

We need 3.7 litres of water a day – do you know what is in your water supply? Do we drink enough? Do we have visible easy access to fresh water in our building? Is the light we receive of good quality and how does this impact our circadian rhythm?

These are a few questions that we can ask ourselves to understand how we are affected by our environment. Building standards that provide answers and strategies to answer these questions and many other aspects can create better environments. These standards are WELL, Fitwel and RESET – standards for people and our environment.

The Buildings where we live, work, learn and relax profoundly impact our health, well-being and productivity

Our WELL certification:

The standard is based on years of research in partnership with scientists, doctors and architects. They have explored the connection between the buildings where people spend their time, and the health and wellbeing impact those buildings have on their occupants. It is third-party certified by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), which administers the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) & BREEAM programs. The WELL standard has been implemented many buildings worldwide and with proven results in delivering enhanced building conditions for people and providing a benchmark for future buildings to aspire to. WELL offers people quality internal environments and building investors a standard that has proven results to increase value of building assets.

ZED are WELL AP’s delivering the standard on all buildings.

What is Reset?
RESET is the first data based, continuous monitoring certification system that focuses on air quality. The certification gives building owners and tenants direct access to live data and opportunity to improve their air quality when required. RESET sets high standards towards reducing TVOC, PM2.5 and CO2 to the benefit of each person.

RESET certification can be applied to existing running buildings or as part of the air quality on-going data monitoring requirements for Fitwel and WELL re-certification.

We are RESET AP’s and can design and deliver your RESET certification project.
